Gareggin Harutyunyan moves between painting, drawing, and public art, constructing surreal worlds where familiar symbols are displaced, distorted, and given new psychological weight.
[About]
Painting, Drawing & Public Works
Gareggin Harutyunyan is a Yerevan-based artist whose practice moves between painting, drawing, muralism, and unconventional surfaces. Drawing from surrealism, popular imagery, and the visual language of the city, his work transforms recognizable figures and symbols into compositions that feel at once familiar and strangely unstable.
Harutyunyan studied at the Hakop Kojoyan Educational Complex and Armenian State Pedagogical University, with further study at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. Across both studio work and large-scale public projects, he approaches image-making as a form of reconstruction, allowing fragments of culture, memory, humor, and contemporary life to occupy the same visual field.
Alongside his independent practice, Harutyunyan founded Gareggin Art Studio in Yerevan. His work has been exhibited in Armenia and abroad and is held in private collections internationally.

Fishing, 2024–2026
Beginning with a graphite study made in 2024, Fishing follows a recurring figure suspended between pursuit and uncertainty. The fisherman becomes less a character than a condition: waiting, searching, casting toward something whose value remains undefined.
In Fishing II (2026), Harutyunyan revisits the image on stainless steel, shifting the work from the intimacy of drawing toward a harder, reflective surface. The change in material alters the image itself. What began as observation becomes confrontation, implicating the viewer within the same cycle of desire and pursuit.
